What To Expect After A Ketamine Infusion

You may be wondering what’s going to happen during your first ketamine infusion. How are you going to feel after a ketamine infusion? What should you watch out for? In this blog we’ll share what you may experience and what you might want to anticipate after your ketamine infusion.

Chances are that you may feel a bit tired after your ketamine journey.

Expectation #1: Feelings of Fatigue or Tiredness

A ketamine infusion is all about a journey for you and your body. If the experience you had was very profound or challenging, you may be even more tired from the journey.

There are several factors that affect this including dose and how you feel before the infusion. The higher the dose, the more tired you may feel and may experience other side effects. Also, if you feel extra tired or nervous before the infusion, you may feel even more tired afterwards.

This is why we encourage our patients to have a good rest days before the infusion so that they feel more relaxed and will have a more pleasant experience.

Do you want to learn more about this topic? If so, check out Why You Feel Tired After Ketamine Therapy where we explore why this happens, and overview on what the research shows.

Sometimes, you may feel nauseous or dizzy after your infusion. It’s important to let your ketamine specialist know if this happens.

Expectation #2: Feeling Nauseous or Dizzy

Depending on how you respond to the ketamine plus how much you receive can affect the chances of you feeling nauseous or dizzy. If you had a higher dose, you may feel a slightly floaty feeling well into several hours after the infusions.

If your nausea doesn’t go away, remember to speak with your ketamine specialist regarding this so that they can give you the proper medications.

You may be confronted with a lot of buried painful memories that will leave you feeling emotionally raw.

Expectation #3: Feeling Vulnerable

Ketamine infusions can make you vulnerable at times, especially when you have near-death experiences or are confronted with some painful old truths. These challenging experiences can leave you feeling emotionally raw.

To learn more about the different types of experiences you may have during a ketamine infusion, read our blog here.

If you feel this way it is important that you have someone to talk to such as an integration coach or therapist. Even something as simple as journaling after your treatment will allow you to unpack all of your emotions and process everything better.

Your experiences during the infusion may include visions you’ve never seen before, leaving you confused and full of questions.

Expectation #4: Feeling Confused or Uncertain

Did you experience something that you didn’t expect? Similar to the sense of vulnerability, you may feel open and unsure about what you saw. You may be wondering what those psychedelic geometrics mean. Or perhaps you had an experience of talking with a loved one who had passed.

You will probably have so many questions after, leaving you feeling confused and uncertain. Don’t worry, that is OKAY. We believe whatever you experienced has some purpose and it may take days to unpack.

The key to understanding all these emotions is to unpack this with someone you trust like an integration coach or therapist. You should never keep your emotions bottled up after your treatment.

Sometimes, ketamine infusions will leave you feeling calm and peaceful.

Experience #5: Feeling Inspired and Peaceful

We don’t want you to think that the only things you’ll only be experiencing after the infusion are negative feelings. In fact, you may also feel a sense of calmness and peace that you have never felt before!

Enjoy those positive feelings and be grateful! In fact, after your infusion, we even recommend that you instill good habits into your lifestyle so that you can make the most of these emotions.

The higher the dosage, the higher the chances of you having near-death or out-of-body experiences, which will leave you with lots of insights afterwards.

Experience #6: Feeling Introspective

Sometimes during the infusions, you will have a lot of “downloads” or lessons. Experiences such as near-death experiences or out-of-body experiences can let you have epiphany after epiphany.

You may end up feeling introspective afterwards and realise things that will make you see life differently. This will also depend on your dosage. The higher the dosage, the higher the chances of you having these types of experiences.

Every ketamine patient has a different experience, which will depend on many factors.

Each Experience is Different

Despite us listing all of the possible experiences above, each person’s experience is different and will depend on many factors such as dosage, setting, and mindset.

We cannot tell you for certain what you will feel during your own treatment, so be open to the unknown and possibility that what you experienced is exactly what you needed. Trust in the experience and remind yourself that everything happens for a reason.
