Are you satisfied with what is in your comfort zone? Have you ever wondered what you might be like outside your safe bubble? In this blog post, Dr. Ko shares to us how growth actually comes from taking your first baby steps outside your comfort zone.
The Hindrance of Comfortability
You’re probably very comfortable right now aren’t you? You might be lying in bed, you might be on your laptop, but you're pretty comfortable sitting there, standing there, wherever you may be.
Now, what's interesting about the place that you're currently at, which we will refer to as your comfort zone, is that there are times in our life when we step out of it. And, this is important because this is where all our growth happens.
How Uncomfortability Leads To Growth
Imagine when you go to the gym to work out. When you're doing a bench press, or a squat, or running really fast, you are pushing yourself outside of that comfort zone. You're becoming uncomfortable.
When you become uncomfortable, this is where growth happens. When someone is doing a bicep curl, what's actually happening is that there's muscles that are being torn as you're doing your curl. But, when they come back and heal, it comes back stronger and has more force than it did before.
It Always Starts With Baby Steps
The reason I bring all this up is: Being in our comfort zone is wonderful. But, to step outside of that comfort zone, is when a lot of this growth will happen.
I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone today. That might look like going and talking to that person who’s attractive. That might look like asking the Starbucks barista for a 10% discount for a random reason. That might look like raising your hand in class and asking a question that you think is dumb.
Step outside of your comfort zone. This is what leads to true growth, and, when you're growing, that is success.
